The short version
ANotes is free, has no account and keeps your notes on your phone. Your notes are yours. The app comes as it is, the AI and dictation can make mistakes, and backups are up to you. Nothing here takes away rights your local law gives you.
1 · Agreeing to these terms
These terms cover the ANotes app and this website. By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app. "We" and "us" means the developer of ANotes.
2 · What ANotes is
ANotes is a voice-notes app that runs on your phone. It is in alpha testing: features can change, move or be removed, and things may break. The app is free. A paid version with extra looks may come later; if it does, what it costs and what it adds will be shown before you pay.
3 · Your notes are yours
- Everything you write or record in the app belongs to you. We don't receive a copy, so we can't read, use or recover it.
- You are responsible for what you record and keep. Recording other people may need their consent where you live; please follow those laws.
- Don't use the app to break the law or to harm anyone.
4 · AI and dictation can be wrong
Transcripts, summaries and answers are produced by models running on your phone. They can mishear words, leave things out or state things that aren't true. Check anything important before you rely on it, and don't use the app for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions without checking the facts elsewhere.
5 · Models and voices come with their own licences
The voice and AI models you download are made by other people and organisations and are hosted by services such as Hugging Face and GitHub. Each model keeps its own licence and terms. We don't own them and can't promise they stay available.
6 · Backups are up to you
Your notes live only on your phone. If the phone is lost, reset or broken, or the app is uninstalled, notes that were not shared or backed up are gone, and we can't bring them back. Keep copies of anything you can't lose.
7 · The app's licence
The source code of ANotes is available under the PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 licence: free for personal use, study and non-profit use; commercial use needs written permission. These terms cover using the app; the licence covers the code.
8 · No warranty
The app and the website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows.
9 · Limits of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, or for lost data, notes or profits, arising from your use of the app. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us for the app in the 12 months before the claim, which for the free app is nothing. Some places don't allow these limits; where that is so, they apply only as far as allowed.
10 · Your rights under local law
Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer under the laws of the country you live in. If you live in the European Union or the UK, that includes your rights under the GDPR, described in the privacy policy.
11 · Which law applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and of the state where the developer lives, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where section 10 says the law of your own country applies.
12 · Stopping
You can stop using ANotes at any time by uninstalling it. We may change, pause or stop offering the app or the website. If the app is no longer offered, the copy on your phone keeps working for as long as your phone runs it.
13 · Changes to these terms
A change is posted on this page with a new version number and date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept it.
