Privacy policy
version 1.2 · last updated 29 October 2026
The short version
Your notes, recordings and transcripts stay on your phone. ANotes has no account, no sync, no analytics and no ads. The only time the app uses the internet is to download the models you choose.
Who we are
ANotes is made by one developer and is in alpha testing. This policy covers the Android app and this website, getanotes.com. To ask about it, use the form on getanotes.com, or in the app open Help and support from the avatar menu.
What stays on your phone
- Your notes, folders, recordings, transcripts and settings.
- They live in the app's private storage, which other apps can't open, protected by your phone's own encryption and screen lock.
- They are deleted when you delete them, or when you uninstall the app. Recordings follow the keep-or-clear rule you choose in Settings.
What leaves the phone, and when
- Model downloads. Voice models are downloaded once, when you choose them, from Hugging Face or GitHub. As with any download, those services see your IP address and which file was asked for. Nothing about you or your notes is sent with the request.
- What you share yourself. When you share a note, a recording or a file, it goes only where you send it, through Android's share menu.
- Links you open. A link in a note opens in your browser, which then follows its own privacy policy.
Nothing else leaves the phone. The app contains no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting service, and no tracking identifier.
What we never do
- We never sell or rent your data, and we never share it with advertisers.
- We never show ads, in the app or on this site.
- We never use your notes to train any AI model, ours or anyone else's.
What the app asks permission for
- Microphone: to record and dictate, only while you are recording.
- Notifications: to show a download's progress and when it is finished. It is asked when your first download starts.
- Internet and network state: for model downloads only. The network state lets the app warn you before a big download on mobile data.
- Running in the background: so a download keeps going when you leave the app.
- Audio settings: so a headset's microphone can be used for recording.
This website
- The site sets no cookies and has no analytics or advertising. Its fonts are served from getanotes.com itself, so visiting does not contact Google or any font service.
- The server that hosts the site may keep standard access logs (IP address, the page asked for, the time), as every web server does.
- The sign-up and question form. Your email is used only to answer you and, if you tick the box, to send one message when ANotes is ready. No newsletter; it is never sold or shared. It is stored on a private server run by the developer, never in a code repository, and a copy goes to the developer's private Telegram chat so it is seen quickly.
- Your IP address is used only in memory, to limit how often the form can be sent. It isn't saved with your message.
- The spam check is Cloudflare Turnstile, which processes some technical data from your browser (Cloudflare's privacy policy).
- Release-notice addresses are deleted once that message is sent. Messages are deleted when the conversation is over, and after 12 months at the latest. Encrypted server backups age out within 6 months.
- To see or delete what is stored about you, send the form again from the same address and say so.
Your rights in the EU and the UK (GDPR)
The app itself collects no personal data, so the GDPR concerns only this website and its form. For those, the developer of ANotes is the controller: the one who decides how the data is used.
- Why we may keep it. Your email and message: because you sent them and asked for an answer or a release notice (your consent, and the steps you asked for). Access logs and the in-memory IP check: our legitimate interest in keeping the site and form working and free of spam.
- Where it is kept. On the developer's private server and in Telegram, as described above. Some of it, such as the spam check, may be handled outside the EU, including in the United States.
- Your rights. You can ask to see, correct or delete what is stored about you, to get a copy of it, or to object to its use, and you can withdraw your consent at any time. Send the form again from the same address and say so; we answer within one month.
- Complaints. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.
Coming later
These are planned and not in the app yet. This page will be updated, with a new date, before any of them ships:
- Backup to your own Google Drive, optional. Notes are encrypted on the phone with a passphrase only you know, before anything leaves it.
- AI features that run on the phone with downloaded open models. Your notes are not sent to an AI service.
- Problem reports from the app. Only when you press Send, after you see exactly what is sent. Diagnostics such as the app version and recent errors are included only if you leave them on; note text is never included. Reports go to our own server, not to a third-party service.
- Crash reports, only after you agree each time, also to our own server.
Children
ANotes is not directed at children under 13. The app collects no personal data from anyone, children included.
Changes to this policy
A change is posted on this page with a new version number and date. A change that sends more data off the phone will be described here before the app does it.
